KIA frontline sources said a combined force of Burmese Army’s 423rd and 434th Light Infantry Regiment troops on Monday launched attack on KIA 6th Battalion’s Naw Lang Post, located in Hpakant Township, at around 2:00 pm. KIA source said Burmese army troops first fired artillery shells on KIA’s positions at around 1:45 pm before its ground troops advanced.

The two sides fought again in early next morning on June 16 near Awng Lang village. KIA officials said there have been 4 encounters between KIA and Burmese Army troops in the past two days. About 300 Burmese troops made an assault on KIA positions from three directions. No casualties have been so far reported by either side.

The latest offensive by Burmese Army in Hpakant area came after its 423rd LIR troops attacked KIA’s Anam Camp Post in April, 2015.

In northern Shan State, KIA’s 38th Battalion troops fought a Burmese Army unit near Hpawng Seng in Muse Township for two consecutive days on June 15 and 16.

KIA’s 9th Battalion troops also battled Burmese Army troops under 77th Light Infantry Division in Kutkai Township on June 16.

TNLA source said its 101st Battalion troops engaged in a battle against Burmese Army troops at a location between Lung Kam village and Ja Ram village in Kutkai Township on June 15 at 1 pm.
